When I first signed on to the Popular Internet Dating Site (PIDS), I figured it would be a long process to find someone with whom I wanted to start conversing. But after sending out those first few ‘hello’s’, I found I had responses within 3 hours!
One man, a Geologist, seemed especially interesting, and asked almost immediately if I wanted to meet for coffee. I was shocked. I thought we’d talk online for weeks, maybe even months before actually meeting in person. But he had such a sweet face, and seemed to be very calm and sensitive. So I agreed to meet (at a public place and during the daytime), at a popular and busy bookstore/coffee shop. I couldn’t believe it, within 2 days of signing on to the site, I was about to meet my first ‘date’.
The Geologist and I hit it off immediately. Before I knew it, I was in a relationship and being ‘cared for’ again.
The Geologist was a fun and adventurous sort. During my time with him, I was able to try several new things I’d never done before. For instance, I lived in a little cabin with no power or water. We heated with a wood stove. In the evenings, we read books by the light of oil lamps. We hauled water in gallon jugs for drinking, cooking and bathing. I learned to wash AND condition
my hair using just a quart of water. I loved living in the little cabin; it was one of the best times of my life.

I ended up moving with The Geologist to Portland, Oregon. I’d never lived anywhere other than Idaho, so moving to a new state was an adventure. The Geologist liked to sail, and I tried sailing for the first time out on the Columbia River. Scared me to death the first time the boat heeled over. But then got hooked. (Who would figure that a county girl from Idaho would fall in love with sailboats.)
Despite the fact that the Geologist was a real sweetie, we ended up spending only two years together. We are still, six years later, very good and close friends. I could probably say he is my best friend.

OK, moving on,... So now, here I am in Portland, by myself, where I knew absolutely no one. My family wanted me to return to Boise, but I found I loved Portland. It truly felt like home to me. So… I got back on the PIDS, and decided it was time to get out and make some friends.
